The Journey to the Empress Video is from back in 1995 from 2 expeditions to the “Empress of Ireland” in the Gulf of St. Lawrence (1993 & 1994). This was stored away on an S-VHS tape. I just recently repaired the S-VHS tape deck and stumbled across this when exploring some old tapes. It’s not Hi Def, just Standard Def, but not bad condition considering it’s 23 years old.
RMS Empress of Ireland was an ocean liner belonging to the Canadian Pacific Railway. The ship was in a collision with the collier Storstad on May 29th, 1914 and sank in the St. Lawrence River in 14 minutes. A total of 1012 people died in this most tragic maritime disaster in Canadian history.
